Survey

Household survey Overall incidence of accidents

The BFU is committed to the safety of the Swiss population. The aim of our work is to prevent accidents in order to reduce personal suffering and, at the same time, the strain on the healthcare system. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive overview of the frequency of accidents, how they happen and what consequences they have is essential.

Closing gaps in accident research

Information is available from some sources, e.g. from police reports on road traffic accidents . However, the available information is incomplete for certain groups of people and for certain types of accidents (e.g. accidents at home). In order to close these gaps, the BFU is conducting the research project «Overall incidence of accidents».

A survey of 60 000 randomly selected Swiss private households is used to collect data on the overall incidence of accidents . The results of the survey can be used to identify accident black spots and derive preventive measures.

For statistical reasons, only people from randomly selected households may take part in the survey. For each of the households contacted, one person is to provide information on the accident frequency and accident history of all persons living in the household. The basis for the random selection of households is the sample register of the Federal Statistical Office FSO.

Survey together with YouGov Switzerland

The BFU commissioned the research institute YouGov Switzerland in Zurich to conduct the survey.

Do you live in one of the selected households and have received an invitation to take part in the survey? Then you are cordially invited to participate. You can access the online questionnaire via the following link: www.survey.yougov.ch/bfu

On the start page, you can enter the username and password from your invitation and complete the questionnaire.

It is important that you answer the questions even if no one in your household has had an accident in the last 12 months.

The survey takes 5 to 10 minutes and is available in German, French, Italian and English. Participation is voluntary and the survey is anonymous. To thank those who responded, all participants are invited to take part in a prize draw.
